Dedicated THEN to preserving and protecting your business, 7 Maryland contractors formed the first ABC. Their association was built on the principles of free enterprise in a healthy, competitive climate where skill, dedication and determination were the elements of successful advancement. It was a small beginning that was to see phenomenal growth since 1950 to become 82 chapters nationwide with over 21,000 member contractors.

ABC is dedicated TODAY to making "merit shop" construction the industry leader though innovative programs that increase visibility and recognition of its participants. We are the only association working relentlessly to advocate the rights of American free enterprise as well as to provide a trained workforce to meet the future needs of this industry.

Business Development

Being an ABC members puts you in direct contact with thousands of merit shop contractors and industry professionals. Yearly both a national and local directory is published of our members. To supplement this valuable tool our national computerized referral system, the Construction Referral Service, and our local telephone referral service is bringing business to our members on a daily basis.

Craft Training

Without skilled workers, every jobsite would be empty. ABC runs craft training courses throughout the year in all the trades, to train your employees and make them more productive. Let ABC help you make your people the best.

Advocacy

ABC employs 12 full time lobbyists in Washington, D.C. who continuously monitor and influence legislative and regulatory activity having potential impact on merit shop business. ABC Southern Nevada, meets regularly to establish and oversee ABC's legislative policy and agenda in the State of Nevada. ABC's political action committees raise funds to help further ABC members' political objectives on the federal, state and local levels.

Networking

ABC provides members with numerous opportunities to build your business through Networking. We conduct monthly dinner meetings, area luncheon meetings, networking receptions and special events such as golf outings.

Management Education

A wide vareity of programs are available at all levels. Whether it's a 3 hr seminar or an extensive 6-week course, ABC covers all issues affecting your business. Recognizing the crucial need for trained managers. ABC provides up-to-date training for supervisors, project managers, estimators and safety managers. From field level employees to key management personnel, our education programs have something for everyone.

Safety

ABC sets the industry standard for jobsite safety. Keeping you informed on matters of crucial importance is our goal. ABC offers the most comprehensive array of safety programs including timely seminars, counseling, and in-house video lending library and a vast assortment of manuals and videos for you to purchase. Yearly our members are recognized for outstanding safety efforts through our STEP program which awards certificates for three levels of achievement.

Member Recognition

Recognizing outstanding projects of our members is achieved through our Construction Awards program held each year. Local winners are then eligible to attain still a greater honor by participating in the National Construction Awards program. The Accredited Quality Contractor Program publicly recognizes and honors those construction firms which have documented their commitment in four key areas of corporate responsibility: Safety, Employee Benefits, Training and Community Relations.

Industry Information

ABC communicates regularly with our members, to keep you informed and up-to-date on what is happening in our industry and in our chapter. Regular publications include the The Meritimes and ABC Today. These are supplemented by flyers, fax alerts and other timely communications.

Labor Relations

ABC steadfastly defends and protects against any and all threats to free enterprise in the construction industry. Our highly respected and knowledgable labor law attorney provides individual consultations on any labor-related problem being experienced by a member. ABC conducts frequent seminars on how to stay union-free, and provides assistance and advice upon request. Your membership also includes a complimentary copy of our Jobsite Labor Relations Handbook.
